Neuroanatomical Correlates of Macrolinguistic Aspects in Narrative Discourse in Unilateral Left and Right Hemisphere Stroke: A Voxel-Based Morphometry Study

چکیده

Background A growing body of literature has demonstrated the importance discourse assessment in patients who suffered from brain injury, both left and right hemispheres, as represents a key component functional communication. However, little is known about relationship between gray matter density macrolinguistic processing. Purpose This study aimed to investigate this group participants with middle–low low socioeconomic status. Method Twenty adults unilateral hemisphere ( n = 10) or chronic ischemic stroke 10 matched (age, education, status) healthy controls produced three oral narratives based on sequential scenes. Voxel-based morphometry analysis was conducted using structural magnetic resonance imaging. Results Compared controls, showed cohesion impairments, whereas impairments coherence producing macropropositions. Cohesion positively correlated primary sensory area (PSA)/precentral gyrus pars opercularis. Coherence, narrativity, index lexical informativeness were associated PSA/insula superior temporal gyrus. Macropropositions mostly related gyrus, cingulate, motor area/insula. Discussion Overall, present results suggest that hemispheres are implicated processes narrative discourse. Further studies including larger samples various status should be conducted. Supplemental Material https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.14347550

Recovery of cohesion in narrative discourse after left-hemisphere stroke.

Little is known about the recovery of narrative discourse after stroke. While several studies have analyzed the recovery of language in individuals with aphasia, few known studies exist on the recovery of narrative discourse in stroke survivors, particularly those who have not been diagnosed with aphasia. In this study, we evaluated the cohesiveness of narrative discourse in a cohort of individ...

Neuroanatomical correlates of apathy in Parkinson's disease: A magnetic resonance imaging study using voxel-based morphometry.

Apathy is generally defined as a disorder of motivation and is considered one of the most common neuropsychiatric disturbances in Parkinson's disease (PD). Only few studies addressed the neuroanatomical correlates of apathy in PD. The aim of this article was to determine the structural correlates of apathy in PD patients. Fifty-five PD patients underwent a neuropsychiatric and neuropsychologica...

Neuroanatomical correlates of psychosis in temporal lobe epilepsy: voxel-based morphometry study.

BACKGROUND Temporal lobe epilepsy is associated with a significant risk of psychosis but there are only limited studies investigating the underlying neurobiology. AIMS To characterise neuroanatomical changes in temporal lobe epilepsy and comorbid psychosis. METHOD The study population comprised all individuals with temporal lobe epilepsy on the epilepsy database at the National Centre for E...

Neuroanatomical correlates of prion disease progression - a 3T longitudinal voxel-based morphometry study

PURPOSE MRI has become an essential tool for prion disease diagnosis. However there exist only a few serial MRI studies of prion patients, and these mostly used whole brain summary measures or region of interest based approaches. We present here the first longitudinal voxel-based morphometry (VBM) study in prion disease. The aim of this study was to systematically characterise progressive atrop...
